Abstract

Background and Objective : Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy (LC) is the worldwide gold standard operation for benign disease of gallbladder. The standard LC technique uses 4 port (SFPLC). The Modified Two-Incision LC (MTILC) is alternative technique. The study aims to compare the results between MTILC and SFPLC.

Methods : Non randomized clinical trial at Department of Surgery, BuriramHospital. Sixty patients with gall stone, who were admitted at the hospital during January 2010 to December 2010 were operable. These patients were divided into two groups equally. Group I 30 patients were operated by MTILC. Group II 30 patients were operated by SFPLC. Both groups were operated by the same surgeon. The operative time, postoperative analgesic drug use, length of hospital stay, postoperative complication and hospital cost were analyzed.

Result : Thirty patients in Group I and Group II were comparable in demographic data. Operative time, postoperative analgesic drug use, length of hospital stay and complication were similar between two group. Hospital cost in MTILC group were lower than SFPLC group significant statistical difference (22,781 + 1,951.613 vs 24,729 + 4,197.281). There were no postoperative complication in both groups.

Conclusion : MTILC was as safe as the SFPLC and less hospital cost

Key Word : Modified Two-Incision Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy, Hospital cost
