Abstract

Cholangiocarcinoma is a primary cancer of the bileducts arising from malignant transformation ofcholangiocytes, the epithelial cell that line the biliary tract.It can be anatomically classified into intrahepatic andextrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma.This article reviews themanagement of both intrahepatic and extrahepatic tumors,with a particular emphasis on the preoperative workup,surgical management and outcome of patient withcholangiocarcinoma.The current status of adjuvanttherapy,including locoregional therapy and systemicchemotherapy options, is also reviewed.
