Needs and Expectations of the Personnel of the Faculty of Medicine,
Abstract
Background and Objective: Human resource development is the crucial responsibility of organization leaders. Therefore, personal information especially in terms of needs and expectations of the staffs is needed in order to improve work satisfaction and teamwork. The objective was to explore needs and expectations of the personnel of the Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University.
Methods: A Sample of 765 was randomly selected from 4,391 faculty staffs, who were work continuously of the Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University. The design was descriptive study. A self-administered questionnaire, including general information, the needs, and the expectations of the personnel of the faculty of medicine was used to collect data. The data were analyzed using the independent sample t- test and ANOVA: with only p<0.05 being considered statistically significant.
Results: The questionnaire respondents were 91.63%, including government officers (41.2%), university employees (24.3%), permanent employees (9.1%), government employees (2.4%) project employees (3.7%) and temporary employees (17.7%), respectively. It was found that the needs and the expectations level among academics and supporting staffs was high with mean scores of 3.78 (SD 0.694) and (95% CI 3.73, 3.84). The faculty of medicine staffs’ relationship with colleagues, the needs and the expectations were the highest while their needs and their expectations on salary and welfare were the lowest. Categorized into work position, department, and section, it was found that the faculty staffs’ needs and expectations were varied and statistically significant.
Conclusion: As a whole the needs and the expectations of the personnel of the Faculty of Medicine were high. Therefore, their relationship with colleagues and, teamwork should be promoted in order to meet their needs and expectations.
