Contrraceptive in Family Planning Unit, Srinagarind Hospital

Abstract

During the 8 – year period form 1997-1984, both temporary and permanent contraceptions were given by the Family Planning Unit, Srinagarind Hospital. The temporary methods given were intrauterine devices (IUDS) 1,026 cases, injection contraception (DMPA) 681 cases, and oral contraception (OC) 786 cases. The permanent  methods given were  vasectomies for male sterilization 143 cases, laprocator 146 cases, minilaparotomy for interval female sterilization 2,987 cases, minilaparotomy for postpartum tubal sterilization and caesarean section with tubal sterilization and caesarean section with tubal sterilization 6,418 cases.

72.1% of the cases were from Khon Kaen province, while the others were from nearby provinces suxh as Mahasarakam, Kalasin, and Udon Thani.

The average age and number of living children of those who had the female sterilization were

29.5 + 0.3 years and 3.02 + 0.9 children, respectively. 67.0% of them were in agricultural profession, and

61.3 % of them had previously used various temporary methods.

The average age number of living children of those who had the male sterilization were 33.6 + 1.6

Years and 2.7 + 0.9 children, respectively. 44.5% of them were  government officials and 47.3% of them had previously used various temporary methods.

The average ages of those who used the IUD,DMPA and OC methods were 25.2 + 0.9, 24.3 + 1.2 and 24.4 + 1.2 years, respectively. The average number of living children of those who used the temporary methods wad 1.5 + 0.8 children. 39.6% of those who used the IUD and 44.4% of those who use the OC were government officials while 29.4% of those who use the injection contraception were housewives.

The rate of complication in all contraception cases was very low, and none of them was serious was serious. The pregnancy rate in those who had the female sterilization and injection was 0.3% , and that in those who used the IUD was 3.4%.
