Abstract

Respiratory effects  following  intravenous  nalbuphine (10 mg) for pre medication were studied in 16 patients. Minute ventilation decreased significantly at 10 minutes after drug administration. It had no effect on respiratory rate for up to 30 minutes. End tidal CO2 concentration significantly increased aftrer 5 minutes and then remained almost unchanged up to 30 minutes. Arterial PC02 and pH also showed  significant change at 30 minutes. Thus intravenous nalbuphine 10 mg. Depressed respiration with statistical significance, but all the parameters measurement (RR, MV, FECO2and pH) were within the normal range.
