Managemrnt of Abnormal Papanicolaou Smear
Abstract
Cervical cancer has been the most important disease of the Thai female genital tract because it is the leading cause of death. Early diagnosis and early treatment are necessary to decrease the mortality and morbidity of the disease and the treatment. Treatment in the precancerous stage is one for prevention of cervical cancer. Papanicolaou smear is the best screening for the diagnosis of precencerous lesions and early cervical cancer. Some aspects of Papanicolaou smear are controversial, especially the significances of mildly atypical smear or mild dysplasia. Should patients with mild atypia be referred for colposcopy ? Is cervical conization necessary to do on these patients? All these questions are discussed
