Pediatric Cardiovascular Disease in Srinagarind Hospital.

Abstract

During the period from May 1982 to April 1987, 550 cases of pediatric cardiovascular disease in Srinagarind Hospital were retrospectively reviewed.  The percentage of congenital heart disease, rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease, myocardial disease, pyopericardium, cardiac beri-beri and cardiac arrhythmia were 60.6, 31.1, 2.7, 2.7, 0.9 and 2 respectively.

The five leading types of congenital heart disease, in order of decreasing frequency, were ventricular septal defect (33.3%), Tetralogy of Fallot (19.5%), patent ductus arteriosus (17.4%), atrial septal defect (10.5%), pulmonary stenosis (4.2%).  Thirty percent of brain abscess caused by cyanotic congenital heart disease.  Twenty percent of Down’s syndrome had congenital heart disease.
