Dengue hemorrhagic fever in Srinagarind Hospital

Abstract

Clinical and laboratory studies were performed prospectively on 38 serologically proven cases of DHF between August 1 and November 15 , 1985. Twenty-three were male and 15 were female with mean age of 7.2 ± 3.14 years. Fever and hemorrhagic manifestations were presented in all cases. Shck was found in 60.5% Abdominal pain and vomiting were found equally in very high percentage about 86.8%. Hepatomegaly was found in 84.2% of the patients and was not correlated with severity of disease. Tourniquet tests were positive in 92.1% not significantly difference in shock and nonshock group. In shock cases, menn platelet count was 21,173.91 ± 14,153.87 / cu.mm. which correlated with severity of bleeding mean serum sodium was 130.2 ± 4.6 mEq/L and serum albumin was 3.27 ± 0.4 gm% all were lower than in nonshock cases significantly. Serum enzyme transaminases (SGPT and SGOT) were elevated in most of the patients. Pleural effusion was found in  48.1%

The patients were admitted in the hospital in averge 3.5 days and no mortality was found at all.
