Heat Stroke : Report of 4 Cases

Abstract

Four case of heat stroke are reported. All of them are military recruits. The symeptoms occur while they are training during hot weather. The major presenting symptoms are unconsciousness and high fever whereas the other abnormalities are sluggishly reactive small pupils, watery diarrhea, disseminated intravas cular coagulation , adult respiratory distress syndrome, acute renal failure , proteinuria , hypokalemia , metabolic acidosis and elevation of muscle enzymes.Two of them had positive blood test for amphetamine.The specific treatment is rapidly lowering body temperature , in addition to that are supportive treatments. Two patients died ,one on arrival at the emergency room while the other died from hospital acquired infection . However two patients have survived with complete recovery.
