Acute Respiratory Infection in Children as a Cause of Admission to Srinagarind Hospital

Abstract

A retrospective study of acute respiratory infection (ARI) as a cause of admission of children to Srinagarind Hospital was performed. From 1983 to 1987, ARI was a cause of admission in 14.7% of cases with pneumonia being the leading cause. Mortality rate from ARI comprised 12.3% of the total mortality of which 90% of the mortality rate from ARI was due to pneumonia. Of children who died from pneumonia 50% were under 1 year of age.
