Prevalence and Factors Related with Low Back Pain of Nurses at Srinagarind Hospital

Background and objective: Low back pain is a main problem among health care workers. It can relatively contribute to obstacle when working or living in daily life. In order to recognize to this problem, we decided to examine the prevalence of low back pain and associated factors in nurses at Srinagarind hospital
Methods: This descriptive study was conducted as among 994 nurses working in the inpatient department in the Srinagarind hospital during May 2017, 187 nurses were sampled using systematic sampling. Self-structured questionnaire was used for data collection. The data was analyzed by using Statistical Package for the SPSS Version 17.0. The results were presented with frequency , percentage , median , interquartile range , 95%CI , Pearson’s chi-square test, odds ratio and Non parametric test
Results: The response rate was 87.17% (163/187). The prevalence of low back pain in nurses were 65.6% (95%CI: 56.49-71.64). It was determined that nurses who twisting many times per minute when they work (OR=2.99, 95%CI : 1.33-6.72) , having sitting period around 1 to 4 hours per day (OR=0.38, 95%CI=0.17-0.87) and lifting more than 55 kg.(OR=3.86, 95%CI=1.01-14.69) were significantly associated with the prevalence of low back pain.
Conclusion: Nurses experienced low back pain were 65.6%. The factors associated with low back pain were twisting many times , having sit period around 1 to 4 hours per day and lifting more than 55 kg.
