Abstract

Background and Objective: Cesarean section is necessary in pregnant women who are unable to deliver via vaginal route safely. According to recent studies, rate of cesarean section without indications in Thailand is increasing. One of the reasons is that pregnant women lack of knowledge about Cesarean Section. Therefore researchers had objectives to study the prevalence of pregnant women visiting antenatal care clinic who had knowledge about indications, complications and attitudes to cesarean section.

Methods: A descriptive study was conducted in 130 pregnant women visiting antenatal care clinic in one of the hospitals in Khon Kaen. A self-administered questionnaire was designed by researchers based on general knowledge for public published by The Royal Thai College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Result: The overall response rate was 81.54 (106/130). 39.0% of pregnant women pass the test from questionnaire (95%CI, 29.82-49.09). Mean score of sample size was 8.23 points (from 20 points) (95%CI, 7.5-8.95),87.7% agree that the pregnant women and husbands should have right to decide delivery route and 83.0% fear of infantile complications due to long duration in labor pain.

Conclusion: 39%of pregnant women passed the test form questionnaire. The most agreed attitudes were the pregnant women and husbands should have right to decide delivery route and fear of infantile complications due to long duration in labor pain.
