The Development of Disease free Child Care Center based on the Participation of Community Leaders : A Case Study in Wat Sumungklaram Child Care Center, Yasothon Province

Abstract

Background and Objective : At the presence Nowadays, there are about 4 million Thai children under 5 years and 50% of them were cared at child care center. However it was found that children were ills with infected disease such as upper respiratory infection (URI), diarrhea etc that lead them unhealthy. The way to disease prevention in child care center by child care center improvement with clean and safety. In addition, the development requires the involvement of the community. The objectives of this study to study model of child care center to be child care center disease free by local leaders of Wat Sumungklaram community, Samyaek Sub-District, Yasothon Province.

Methods: This study was action research; participants were 30 community leaders of Wat Sumungklaram community. The implementation were divided into 3 phases; the first was situation analysis of Wat Sumungklaram child care center, the second was action phase, and the third was evaluation. Data analysis, qualitative data were analyzed by contents analysis, quantitative data by paired t – test statistics. Level of significant set at .05

Results: After implementation, there were 2 projects for child care center development which comprised of children health screening, and environmental health development of Wat Sumungklaram child care center project. In addition, leaders of community satisfied increasingly (p< 0.001) 

Conclusion: Wat Sumungklaram child care center, Samyaek Sub-District, Loengnoktha Districts, Yasothon Province was developed by community participation and passed standard criteria of child health center of disease free of Department of Disease control, Ministry of Public Health.
