Analysis of Patients with Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate Research at Tawanchai Center, Khon Kaen University: A National Comparative Study

Background and Objective: Tawanchai Center, Khonkaen University (KKU) aim to continuously publish the research of Cleft Lip and Palate (CLP) patients in the Scopus database. Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) is required in analyzing the research outcome, including classification of educational institutes in Thailand and the National level.
Method: This is a retrospective descriptive study utilizing the related research documents of CLP patients from published date to 2022 in the Scopus database. The research tool was websites starting by searching the keyword “cleft” and “affiliation”. The data collected included the number of citations, the title of journals, and Quartile(Q) according to Scimago. The process took approximately three months and the data was analyzed by the use of statistical percentages and proportions.
Results: The findings showed that Tawanchai Center, KKU ranked first with 129 published research, while Chulalongkorn University ranked second with 41 research and the number of citations was 628, whereas Khon Kaen University received 529 citations. Moreover, KKU held the fifth position in the QS rankings for Thailand. The researcher with the highest number of published papers (58.14%) was Prof. Bawornsilp Chowchuen. In terms of citations by Q-ranked journals, Chulalongkorn University had the highest score with 30.31, followed by KKU with 10.75. At the national level, KKU ranked first in terms of published research and second in terms of article citations. Additionally, QS rankings and Q1 citations were the fifth position.
Conclusion: Tawanchai Center has the highest number of published papers in the Scopus database, including researchers in Thailand. It ranked fifth in term of QS and proportion and second in term of article citations. Tawanchai Center aims to publish in Q1 and Q2 journals in order to increase the citation rate and boost the QS ranking of KKU.
