Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of Lidocaine injection in mesosalpinx for pain relief during and post-partum tubal sterilization in Srinagarind Hospital.
Material and Method: Sixty postpartum women, undergoing postpartum tubal sterilization performed by residents at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, were recruited in this randomized, double-blinded, placebo controlled study. They were randomly assigned to one of two groups. All of them received 2 ml solution injection in mesosalpinx each side. Group one received it as 1%Lidocaine 2 ml. (20 mg). And the other group received it with 0.9%NSS 2 ml. The intra-operative and 1 hour post-operative pain were measured by using a numerical rating score (NRS) from 0-10.
Result: There was no significant difference in the mean of intra-operative and post-operative NRS between the lidocaine group and placebo group (6.28 vs.7.15, p-value 0.211 and 2.5 vs. 2.9, p-value 0.44 respectively).
Conclusion: Lidocaine injection in mesosalpinx had no effective intra-operative and post-operative pain relief in postpartum tubal sterilization under local anesthesia.
