Proportion of the 4th and 5th Year Medical Students in Srinagarind Hospital who have knowledge about Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever

Background and Objective: Dengue is the major public health problem in all over the world. The4th and 5th year medical students in Srinagarind hospital should have knowledge about dengue hemorrhagic fever for appropriate application. This study aimed to study 1)Proportion of the 4th and 5th year medical students in Srinagarind hospital who had knowledge about dengue hemorrhagic fever 2)the central tendency in each part of knowledge about dengue hemorrhagic fever.
Methods: Descriptive study at Faculty of Medicine, KhonKaen University. Study population: 284 of 4th and 5th year medical students in Srinagarind hospital. Using systematic sampling technique.The sample size is 143. Tool and measurement: A self-administered questionnaire. Data analysis: SPSS v.19 and Epi Info v. 3.5.4 were used to analyze the proportion, percent, frequency, maximum, minimum, median, interquartile range, p-value and 95%CI.
Results: the response rate is 90.9% (130/143) and proportion of the 4th and 5th year medical students in Srinagarind hospital who have knowledge about dengue hemorrhagic fever is 73.9% (95%CI: 65.3, 81.0). The knowledge about natural history of disease has the highest median score: 8 (Interquatile range 7-9), followed by signs and symptoms and prevention and management which are 7 (IQR 6-8), 7 (IQR 6-8) and 7 (IQR 7-8) respectively (from 10 points)
Conclusion: Three-fourths of the 4th and 5th year medical students in Srinagarind hospital had knowledge about dengue hemorrhagic fever and the knowledge about natural history of disease has the highest median.
