Abstract

Objective: To identify prevalence and associating factors of diaper dermatitis in children aged 2-4 years old from two major day care centers (Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Nurse) at Khon Kaen University.

Materials and Methods: Self-answered structural questionnaires were collected from the participants’ caregivers. Cross-sectional analysis and statistical test for correlation were conducted to explore associating factors of diaper dermatitis among the study population.

Results: The prevalence of diaper dermatitis in children aged 2-4 years old at daycare center during the study period was 17.2%. The associating factors regarding the occurrence of diaper dermatitis were diarrhea, onset of toilet training, use of oral antibiotics and atopic background of individual child. Two major adjustable factors are early toilet training and avoiding the use of unnecessary oral antibiotics which may lead to the preventive protocol regarding the occurrence of diaper dermatitis in this age group in the future.

Conclusion: Early toilet training and avoiding the use of unnecessary oral antibiotics may help in decreasing the occurrence of diaper dermatitis in daycare population
