Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the cost of providing hemodialysis treatment to patients with chronic renal disease at the hemodialysis centre in Venerable Thawisak Jutindharo hospital and to analyze the level of satisfaction of patients and care providers, with the service provided. Data pertaining to costs and the level of satisfaction from the perspective of both patients and service providers were collected during the period of 1st November, 2019, to 31st December, 2019, in the fiscal year of 2019 (1st October 2018 to 30th September, 2019.) The results of the study showed that in the fiscal year of 2019, the total cost of providing hemodialysis to chronic renal disease patients, through a hemodialysis machine, was 5,953,677.03 baht. This equates to a service cost of 5,686.42 per session. The results of one-way sensitivity analysis show that increased labour costs caused the service price per unit to increase slightly. However, if factoring in the depreciation of the cost of renovations at the hemodialysis centre as 0 – the cost per unit would decrease. Furthermore, if the centre operated at full capacity (6,570 sessions per year), the cost per unit would be 1,313.62 baht per session. With respect to the cost for patients – the price of treatment was between 0-120 baht per session. The average general level of satisfaction of the service providers was 4.48 with respect to the overall service provided by the hemodialysis centre, mean = 4.47). It was found that the level of satisfaction of service providers with the centre’s system was reaching to the highest level at. With respect to convenience, medical equipment and the centre’s facilities, the level of satisfaction was recorded as 4.68. The average general level of patient satisfaction was 4.91 with respect to the overall service provided by the centre. The satisfaction of patients with the centre’s system was 4.91. Towards the staff it was recorded as 5.00. With respect to convenience and the centre’s facilities, it was 4.73. Towards the medical equipment it was 4.96.
