The Application of Six Sigma Principle to Improve The Quality of Education

The research studied the application of the six sigma principle to improve the quality of education which a purpose of this research is to search and to protect a non-completion rate ..The study attempted to identify the reasons for attrition by collecting data from students. Attrition is also known as the dropout rate or non-completion rate, which can be defined as the number of students who had enrolled in a course but do not fulfill all the course requirements or do not complete the course. Out of 79 students, 53 students were chosen as the sample group. These were two-year Construction Technology majors and four-year Civil Engineering Technology majors from the Faculty of Industrial Technology, Lampang Rajabhat University.

The six sigma principle is composed of five phases. The five phases, commonly known as DMAIC, are defining the problems and targets, measuring the problems, analyzing the data, improving the condition and controlling future operations. DMAIC was used to analyze data concerning. attrition factors. The study showed that financial problems were the most influential factor. If this problem were solved, the completion rate would be improved from 41.90% to 55.43%. The tudy also showed that if the target for improvement were to move from a sigma level = 1.3 to a sigma level = 2.0, financial problems, problems with the education system and the lack of development in basic professional skills must be addressed and solved. However, it was shown to be highly likely that the University would improve to a sigma level = 3.5 or higher. This study showed that the six sigma approach was very useful in improving the quality of education and in finding long-term measures to resolve the problem.
