A Comparative Study of The Two Teaching Methods in Industrial Quality Management Course
The purpose of this study was to compare the quality of two teaching methods in the Industrial Quality Management course. The two methods were lecture-based and case-study based. The samples for the study were students from the faculty of Industrial Technology who enrolled in the course at the first semester of 2010 academic year. The lecture-based method was used for the first and second chapters. Each chapter consisted of a pre-test and a post-test. The scores from these two lessons were later analyzed by T -test analysis to separate students with similar academic knowledge into two groups. Students in the first group were taught via the lecture-based method for the third chapter while the second group was taught via the case-study method. The teaching methods were then switched between the two groups for the fourth chapter. These two chapters also consisted of a pre-test and a post-test using the same exam papers for both groups of students. The test scores were analyzed using a T-test analysis. The result showed that the average scores of students taught by the case study method were higher than those taught by the lecture-based method in the third chapter. The same result was repeated with the test scores for the fourth chapter. This led to the conclusion that the case-study method was more successful than the lecture-based method.
