Occupational factors associated with musculoskeletal disorders among Thai ancient goldsmith workers at Si-Satchanalai District Sukhothai Province

Abstract

Background and Objective: Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are one of the health problems that can be encountered among Thai ancient goldsmith workers. The inappropriate posture is one of the factors which cause The work-related injury among This workers. This research study aimed to examine factors related to musculoskeletal disorders.

Methods: This study was descriptive study, Collecting data by using the interview which is divided into 2 sections; personal information factor and work-related factors among Thai ancient goldsmith workers at Si-Satchanalai District Sukhothai Province. The sample were 124 workers. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics and multiple logistic regression of which the results were depicted via adjusted OR (OR_adj) at the 95% confidence interval.

Results: The most ancient goldsmiths were female 66.1 percent, with an average age of 37.17 years (S.D. = 0.603) and them graduated from  high school. Having tested the relationship between the factors related to the muscle pain in the past 12 month and 7-day period, the results revealed that the factors significantly related to the muscle pain (p<0.05) were exertion or pressing (OR_adj=4.26 95%CI=1.20-15.16), heavy equipment usage (OR_adj=6.81 95%CI=1.57-29.58), Exerting force (OR_adj=8.14 95%CI=1.91-34.71) and Unbalanced sitting posture (OR_adj=7.44 95%CI=1.48-37.47).

Conclusion: The factors related to the muscle pain of MSDs among Thai ancient goldsmiths worker were exertion or pressing, heavy equipment usage, Exerting force. Also, The inappropriate sitting posture affect the distribution of unbalanced body weight.
