Risk Management of Anesthetic Nurses for Patients undergoing Anesthesia in Songklanagarind Hospital

Abstract

Background and Objective: Proper risks management could reduce the incident of adverse events that may occur to patients who have anesthesia. The purposes of this prospective descriptive study were to examine  levels of perception in risk management of anesthetic nurses for patients undergoing anesthesia in Songklanagarind hospital.


Methods: A total of 62 anesthetic nurses working in Songklanagarind hospital more than 1 year were recruited. The questionnaires were constructed by the researchers. The questionnaires  were consisted of 2 parts: anesthetic nurses demographic data and level of perception in risk management of patients undergoing anesthesia, The questionnaires were validated by three experts, yielding content validity indiced of 0.88 and 0.89 respectively, and  was examined using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient giving values of 0.97 and 0.94, respectively.


Results: The overall mean total score of anesthetic nurses in risk management for patients undergoing anesthesia was in an excellent level (4.65 ± 0.37) whereas the risk management for adverse event was in good level (4.41 ± 0.50).


Conclusion: The overall perception of anesthetic nurses in risk management including risk management of adverse event  was excellent and might be related with the quality improvement of patient safety during anesthesia
