เมื่อการสื่อสารด้วยคำพูดไม่สามารถถ่ายทอดความหมายได้อย่างครบถ้วนและลึกซึ้งเพียงพอ การแต่งเพลงบำบัด จึงเป็นวิธีการสำคัญในทางดนตรีบำบัด ที่ช่วยให้ผู้รับบริการสามารถแสดงออกถึงอารมณ์ ความรู้สึก ความคิดผ่านการสร้างสรรค์บทเพลง ที่สะท้อนถึงประสบการณ์และความต้องการของตนเอง งานวิจัยจำนวนมากชี้ให้เห็นถึงประสิทธิภาพและคุณประโยชน์ของกระบวนการนี้ในกลุ่มผู้ป่วยทุกช่วงวัย ตั้งแต่เด็กจนถึงผู้ป่วยในระยะสุดท้ายของชีวิต บทความวิชาการนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาและนำเสนอภาพรวมของการแต่งเพลงบำบัด ครอบคลุมประเด็นสำคัญ ได้แก่ ความหมายของการแต่งเพลงบำบัด ความสำคัญและประโยชน์ ประเภทของการแต่งเพลงบำบัด ขั้นตอนการดำเนินกิจกรรม คุณลักษณะของผู้รับบริการที่เหมาะสม เทคโนโลยีที่ใช้ ข้อควรระวังและแนวทางการรับมือจากกิจกรรมแต่งเพลงบำบัด
