Efficiency and Risk Assessment of Mango Supply Chain in Chachoengsao Province

This study was to determine the efficiency and risk of mango supply chain in Chachoengsao Province. Data was collected by interviewing 2 mango exporting entrepreneurs, namely 1) Mango Growers Cooperative Society Chachoengsao Limited and 2) Mango Exporting Community Enterprises Group in Bang Khla, Chachoengsao Province. Each group consists of mango farmers, merchants and staffs from each firm. The data was collected between February and April in 2016. Although both farmer groups have similar operating procedures, there are some differences in procurement, production input and marketing channel. Performances of both groups are dissimilar. The Cooperative Society operates as a profitable enterprise by selling of production input, purchasing mangoes from the members (growers), and distributing the fruits to various domestic and international markets. On the other hand, the Community Enterprises is a non-profit
organization which mainly gathers mango farmers to be a group, provides advices with assistance and cooperation to increase the mango production, and supplies the fruits to nation- and world-wide destinations. Merchants, involve to the Cooperative, purchase mangoes from both the Cooperative and farmers. Whereas, farmers of the Community Enterprises directly sell mango fruits to the merchants. Efficiency of mango supply chain viz. cost, quality, quantity and delivery time of both groups were evaluated. There was no significant difference between two groups. Mean score of the efficiency of delivery time, quality, cost, and quantity were 4.70, 4.56, 5.54, and 4.36 respectively. Weathers and biological risks significantly affected to efficacy of mango supply chain in Chachoengsao Province of both groups.
