Abstract

A rotary tiller implemented with a 10 hp two- wheel tractor was developed for incorporation of green manure namely Sesbania rostrata Brem. and Obrem. Power from PTO shaft was transmitted to rotary gearbox by mean of chain and sprocket. The cutting width of the rotary was 50 cm. There were three disk holder flanges fitted with 15 C-L type blades on the tiller shaft. The flanges were located to attain spiral form of the blade. The speed of the rotor was 348 rpm with engine speed of 1,800 rpm. Results from the test in Sesbania rostrata field (1,013 kg/rai) indicated the field capacity of 0.54 rai/h with 70.8% field efficiency. Fuel consumption was 4.7 litres / rai The length of Sesbania rostrata prior to the test was 119 cm and became 29 cm after being chopped by the incooperation.
