Abstract

Corn snapping harvester attached on walking tractor was developed. the walking tractor, powered by a 10.5 hp diesel engine, has the steering clutch and the selected gear transmissions. The harvester unit has four main mechanisms; snapping unit, gathering unit, cleaning unit and storage unit. The harvester unit is fixed on the left side of the walking tractor and can be removed. The harvesting performance test to fine the total grain losses was conducted in the field of the maize cultivar Suwan5 with the average no. of 5.61 plants per sq.m and The average of row and plant spacing were 74.50x47.59 cm. The sesults showed that the total grain losses increased when increasing the ratio of the tangentail velocity of the snapping roll to the harvesting speed. At the maximum harvesting speed 0.316 m/s and the engine speed 1695 rpm the rate of average snapping corn ws 253.69 kg/h with the average total grain loses 6.79%. The harvesting capacity was tested in the same field as the total grain losses test. The testing results showed that at the average harvesting speed of 0.272 m/s and the engine speed 1492 rpm the harvesting capacity was 0.3 rai/h and the fuel consumption was 2.66 litre/rai
