Abstract

Breeding programme of the small fruit tomato for fresh consumption in rainy season was conducted at Sisaket Horticultural Research Center (SHRC) since 1983, using tomato varieties Sida Hang Chat and CL123-2-4 from Asian Vegetable Research Development Center (AVRDC) as parents. It was evident that F1 hybrid provided higher yield with good fruit quality. Pure line selection of the hybrid was then carried out both in rainy season and winter. At the end of 1985, three selected lines of F known as SK1, SK3 and SK4 were obtained. Yield comparison study and regional yield trial of the three lines, compared with Sida variety as check, at SHRC and Nakhon Phanom Horticultural Experiment Station during 1986 to 1989 revealed that yields of SK1 and SK4 were significantly greater than Sida. The results from regional yield trials suggest that SK1 is the promising variety for northeastern region. It provides fresh yield of 3,080 kg/rai which is about 17% greater than Sida (2,555 kg/rai).
