Keywords:
banana, Kluai Leb Mu Nang, clonal selectionAbstract
Primary study on the distinctive characteristics of banana CV. Kluai Leb Mu Nang (AA group) growing in chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon si thammarat, Phangnga and Phuket provinces on pseudostem were obviously observed: the colour of sheath of pseudostem (green or violet-red) and fruit with or without pubescences. Four types of sheath of pseudostem (Green or violet-red) and fruit with or without pubescences. four types of Kluai Leb Mu Nang were classified: 1) pseudostem with green sheath and fruit without pubescences, 2&) pseudostem with green sheath and fruit with pubeascences, 3) pseudostem with violet-red sheath and fruit without pubescence and 4) pseudostem with violet-red sheath and fruit without pubescence and 4) pseudostem with violet-red sheath and fruit with pubescences. The superior clones of those 4 types wee selected from bannanas growing in each area. Number of hands per bunch (10-12) and number of hands with good fruit per bunch lining conformatively (7-11) were considered as the imporatant criterias. Fourteen superior clones were selected and multiplied at Surat Thani Horticultural Research Centre in 1993. The cultivar characteristics of these bananas grown in the same environmental conditions were studied in 1994. The average number of hands and fruits per bunch of selected clones were 10.4 and 192 respectively while the averages of Kluai Leb Mu Nang conventional clones were only about 8 and 140.
