Abstract

To improve research on visual diagnosis of nutrient disorder and deficiency symptom of economic crops, the prototype CropDOD (Crop Nutrient Deficiency Observation and diagnosis) program was designed by staff of soil Science Division. The decision tree architecture was employed to create program structure. Some parts of Source code and program writing method were presented to illustrate the sequence of program. Information and knowledge to develop the program were obtained from published text books and papers. Nutrient disorded and deficiency symptom could be used as primary indicator of crop nutrient requirement in the field and crop clinic service as well as preliminary soil fertility index of a given area. However, visual symptoms caused by dificiency or toxicity of plant nutrient are specific for each crop and environment which led the development of Crop Speciffic DOD. According to the published knowledge obtained, the crop specific program under development plan consist of corn, soybean, sorghum, cotton, sunflower, wheat and barley. The complilation of CropDOD for economic crops to be the DOA-NEx system (DOA Crop Nutrition Expert) will provide well developed research findings and transferable technology on plant nutrition for efficient crop clinic service of the Department of Agriculture.
