Study on Cocoa Leaf Eating Beetles

Abstract

A survey was carried out to study the beetles occuring in cocoa plantations in chumphon Horticultural Research Centre showed that there were 18 species as follows : Apogonia sp., Microtrichia sp., Adoretus sp., Phrixopogon sp., Desimidophorous breviusculus, Prodioctes sp., Sepiomus sp., Platytrachelus psittacinus, Hypomeces squamosus, Astycus lateralis, Aulacophora similis, Aulacophora sp., Aulacophora foveicollis ; Xylothrip flavipes, Androcerus stratus, Platypus sp. and Coptops polyspila. The assesment of damaging area of cocoa leaves revealed that the peak of damage had been occured 2 times in 1989, the first peak was in May that the beginning or rainfall , the second was in October.
