Abstract

A study of times of planting sorghum for forage and grain yield from rtoon was conducted at the Suphan Buri Field Crops Research Centre in 1989. The experimental design was a split plot with 4 replications. Main plots were sorghum varieties, UT 203 B which is high in sugar content and Late Hegari which is popular among farmers. Sub plots were 4 times of planting at about 15 day intervals from 30 June. sorghum stem were cut one month after flowering. Planting at different dates gave significant difference in stem fresh weight, with highest fresh weight in both varieties from this could be explained by the fact that sorghum could get adequate water when planted on this date. There was an interaction between varieties and times of planting.
For ratooning, planting on 16th August resulted in low fresh eright and grain yield due to low soil moisture contnet. On the other hand, early plantin on th June could get a reasonable yield from ratoon.
