The relationship between mungbean population density and weed control methods was studeied in the dry and wet seasons of 1988 at chai Nat Field CropResearch Center and Dong Khen Luang Watsingh Chai Nat. The experimental design was a factorial in RCB with three weed control treatment : herbicide application (metolachlor 240 g (ai) rai), hand weeding ar 15 and 30 days after planting and no weeding and four mungbean populations : 32,000 64,000 96,000 and 128,000 plants/rai.
The results showed that the use of metolachlor and hand weeding can control weeds and increase mungbean yield when compared to no weeding. Increasing mungbean population reduced weed dry weight and increased yield of mungbean up to 71.1 percent, but reduced dry weight and number of pods/plant of the mungbeans.
