Abstract

Spiny pigweed (Amaranthus spinosus Linn.) was grown in pots at two densities the equivalent of 1,590,909 and 9,545,454 plants per ha, and under three nitrogen level the quivalent of applications of 0, 100 and 300 kg N/ja/ Based on estimates of space occupation spiny pigweed showed a relatively low level of competition ability in teh first 20 days following seedling transplantation. This period was followed by a sharp increase in growth untill all availbale space was affected more by plant population than level of nitrogen application. The only response to nitrogen was at 300 kg/ha at the lower population density.
