Abstract

four sporeless strains of Pleurotus ostreatus, (P.M. 010) native to Thailand was obtained from diallel cross of 8 monokaryons which yielded altogether 11 strains. The morphological and microscopical characterestics of the sporeless strains can be clearly distinguished from those of spore producting strains which produced basidia with sterigmata and basidiospores. Neither sterigma nor basidiospore were observed on the surface of the basidia from the sporeless strains. The stability of the sporeless strains were confirmed by microscopic examinations of sporophores of the 12 subsequent subclturing. Spore production was not observed when spawns were made from new sporeless ruit body and test-cultivated for 3 separate occasions.
