Abstract

A study was undertaken from 1988 - 1989 to determine the frequency of occurrence and distribution of plant parasitic nematodes of peanut in Thailand. One hundred and two soil and root samples were collected from peanut fields in thirteen provinces such as Chinat, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Kalasin, Khon Kaen, Lopburi, Maha Sarakham, Nakorn Ratchasima, Nakorn Sawan, Prachinburi, Si Sa Ket and Sukhothai. The survey showed that 7 gendra of plant parasitic nematodes were associated with soil samples. The nematodes, Cricoremella ornata, Hoplolaimus seinhorsti, were present in 78.43, 42.17, 37.25, 25.49, 8.82 and 6.86 percent of peanut field soil samples respectively. The most frequency found and heavy density population was Criconemella ornata. This nematode could be an important pest of peanut. Other nematodes were commond found and low population in soil not serious pest of peanut.
