Pest Control in Pre-Germinated Direct Seeded Lowland Rice
Abstract
A study of pest control was made in pre-germinated direct seeded lowland rice during the 1985 wet-season and the dry and wet-seasons of 1986. The rice varieties RD 7 and RD 23 were used in the study which was conducted at the Suphan Buri Rice Research Station in The Central Plains Region of Thailand. the most appropriate control strategy for the purpose of maximising profit was based on the use of the insecticides MIPC and/or Monocrotophos at the economic threshold level of infestation of brown plant hopper (established as 20 insects in a 25 x 25 sq cm economic threshold level of infestation of these insect pests also allowed a build up of the useful insect pest predators including, Lycosa preudoannulata, Paederus fuscipes and Cyrtorhinus lividipennis.
