New Cassava Variety "Rayong 3"

Abstract

Rayong 3 cassava variety was developed from hybrid seed of CM407 cross which was introduced from CIAT in 1975. selections were done in Rayong Field Crops Research Center in 1976 - 1977 and CM 407-7 clone was selected Evaluations were done in the research centers and the experimental stations located in cassava growing area from 1978 - 1980. the clone was named HP 4. HP 4 was tested in on-farm trials and farmer fields in 1981 - 1982. Teh results of experiments showed that dry matter content and starch content of HP 4 were higher than Rayong 1, variety, Rayong 3 in 1983. Because of higher starch content, price of Rayong 3 is higher than Rayong 1. Growing Rayong 3, farmers earn more income or lower cost of production.
