Growth Analysis of Thai Kenaf (Hibicus sabdariffa L.)

Abstract

A growth analysis study of the Thai Kenaf variety 'Nonsoong 2' was undertaken in khon Kaen province of Northeast Thailand in 1985. Growth analysis was undertaken on samples taken at 30-day intervals, with the final sampling at 183 day-after-soing (DAS). there was a rapid increase in total-dry-weight from about 30 until 120 DAS, reaching a final absolute value the equivalent of 20.9 t./ha at 183 DAS. An almost constant Relative Growth Rate (RGR) of 6 - 7 % per day was recorded over the period 30 to 90 DAS. The maximum Crop Growth Rate (CGR) recorded was 34.9 g/m/day in teh period 60 - 90 dAS, a value seldom reported for other C3 annual species grown under upland conditions in either tmeperate or tropical regions. Leaf Area Index (LAI) reached a maximum of 6.3 at 120 DAS. The root weight to total dry weight ratio remained low and relatively constant throughot growth, in the range of 7 - 9%. The ratio of stem weight to total weight increased almost linearly throughout, form an initial value of 34% to a maximum of 87%. The ratio of bark weight (which is closely related to fiber yield) to total yield increased from 32% at 120 DAS to 38% at 183 DAS. การศึกษาและวิเคราะห์อัตราการเจริญเติบโตของปอแก้วไทย ที่ศูนย์วิจัยพืชไร่ขอนแก่น ในรูปน้ำหนักแห้ง พบว่า อัตราการเจรืญเติบโตสูงและรวดเร็วที่อายุ 30 วันจนถึง 120 วัน และมีน้ำหนักแห้งสูงสุด 20.9 ตัน/เฮกตาร์ (3.34 ตัน/ไร่) เมื่ออายุ 183 วัน ค่าอัตราการเจริญเติบโตสูงที่ระดับ 34.9 กรัม/วัน อยู่ในระดับสูงเช่นเดียวกับพืชในกลุ่ม C3 ได้แก่ ข้าวโอ๊ต ข้าวบาร์เล่ย์ มันฝรั่ง ค่า LAI สูงสุดที่ 6.3 เมื่อพืชอายุ 120 วัน ส่วนอัตราส่วนของรากค่อนข้างต่ำและคงที่ตลอดการเติบโตที่ระดับ 7-9% ในขณะที่ลำต้นมีค่าระยะแรกที่ 34% และสูงสุดที่ 87% สำหรับเปลือกส่วนประกอบเส้นใยเพิ่มจาก 32% เมื่ออายุ 120 วัน ถึง 38% เมื่ออายุเก็บเกี่ยว 183 วัน
