Agro-Ecological Zones of Thailand and Their Characteristics

Abstract

Agro-ecological Zones in the countries of south and southeast Asia have been delineated by the Food and Agriulture Organization of the United Nations. Under this classification 14 Agro-ecological Zones have been indentified in thailand, namely : R1 S1 , R1 S6 , R1 S7 , R2 S6 , R3 S1 , R3 S5 , R3 S 6, R5 S1 , R5 S4, R5 S5 , R5 S6 , R6 S1 , R6 S 5 and R6 S6. Each Agro-eclogical Zone has a specific rainfall regime (R) and soil grouping characteristics (S) whcih asists the setting up of crop commodity development programmes and in reaching an understanding of soil productivity. the paper maps and describes the Agro-ecological Zones found in Thailand.
