Abstract

The chemistry and fertility characteristics of paddy soils in the northern region of Thailand were studied. Approximately 173 soil samples from 8 provinces in the northern-region were collected. The analytical data showed that most of the soil samples from this region gave pH values between 5.02-5.86. The values of organic carbon were between 0.90-1.26%. The total nitrogen and available phosphorus were very low in these soil samples, therefore, the application of fertilizer to these soils would be necessary to increase rice yield.
