Abstract

In relatively well drained fertile sandy loam soils of the Northeast, the most economical method to increase assava yield is through the application of balanced chemical fertillizer. The poorly drained. relatively infertile loamy sand soils, however, apart from requiring a suitable drainzge sysetem, Soil smelioration is very important. Under subsistant farming conditions, the use of sunnhemp as both mulching material and slow releasing organic fertilizer addition in to the chemical ferliliser seems to justify the added cost of production.
