Factors Affecting Self-Protection among Farmers’ Behavior to Pesticides Exposure
Keywords:

The purpose of this cross-sectional analytical research was to study the relationship of general information, knowledge, attitudes, and use of pesticides with factors affecting self-protection among farmers’ behavior to pesticide exposure by using personal protective equipment (PPE) for rice farmers in Si Prachan district, Suphan Buri province. A total of 362 rice farmers by simple random sampling were collected by questionnaires with a content validity index (S-CVI) of 0.924 and reliability by Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.874. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, chi-square, and Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient.
The results revealed that the farmers' knowledge (Mean = 12.44, S.D. = 1.82), attitudes (Mean = 2.99, S.D. = 0.80) and pesticides use (Mean = 3.08, S.D. = 0.85) were at a moderate level. Self-protection behavior from pesticides exposure was at a high level (Mean = 3.59, S.D. = 0.77). It was found that age, and use of PPE was a significant correlation with self-protection behavior from pesticides exposure. It was also found that self-protection behaviors from pesticides exposure were positively correlated with knowledge of pesticide use (r = 0.684, p < 0.01), attitudes of pesticide use
(r = 0.658, p < 0.01), and the use of pesticides (r = 0.810, p < 0.01).
