Abstract

The exploration and collection of local vegetables has been conducted in the North and Northeastern parts of Thailand. The studied provinces were Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Lampang, Nan, Chiang Rai, Phichit, Uttaradit, Phitsanulok, Khon Kaen, Loei, Udon Thani, Nong Khai, Nakhon Ratchasima and Chaiyaphum since July, 1991. Approximately, 300 species of vegetables were collected and some of these were identified as the same especies, with different local names. Throughout the exploration, local names and utilization of the vegetables were recorded and their photographs were taken. The local vegetables were also given scientific names and kept as dried specimens in the herbarium for further study of their botanical characteristics. All data were compiled and distributed as a scientific document.
