Robusta Coffee (Coffea canephora) :A Perspective

Abstract

The paper outlines th e current significance, distribution and historical identificationand naming of Robusta coffee (Coffea canephora Pierre ex Froehner). The history of the introduction of Robusta coffee to Indonesia in 1901 is also outlined. It was introduced to Songkhla province in Southern Thailand in 1904, this introduction probable origination from Indonesia. Robusta coffee is currently grown in many provinces of Southern Thailand but with little attempt at varietal selection having taken place.
