Red Rot-Wilt Disease on Sugarcane var. Supan 1

Abstract

Early in Octorber 1983. 6-8 months old sugarcane var. Supan 1 in Kanchanaburi and Supan buri provinces showed sudden wilt-rot symptoms. the leaf, leaf sheath, and stem withered, tuned brown, and the whole plant was death. About 3}000 rais of supan 1 variety were collapsed within a month. In splitited stem, the parenchyma was showed hollow-pithy spot, surrounded by water-soaked, purplish-red and purplish-brown discoloration.
The causal organisms founded are the combination of the pathogenic fungi; colletotrichum falcatum, Fusarium sp., and Cephalosporium sp. However, 3 isolates of bacteria associated withthe same symptoms have been further Investigation and identification if they are pathogenic or saprophytic.
According to the field observation. F. 147 is a highly resistant variety. Avoid growing of var. Supan 1 destruction of the diseased cane, and good drainage system for the water-logged area are the recommended control measures.
