Main Article Content
Abstract
Background and Objective: Mango farmers in Nong Saeng district, Saraburi province, face issues with the quality of their produce. Some of this produce does not follow Good Agricultural Practice standards. The objective was to study basic personal information, the extension needs, and the opinions on problems and suggestions regarding the extension needs of mango production, as per the Good Agricultural Practice standards of farmers.
Methodology: The study population consisted of 182 mango farmers in Nong Saeng district, Saraburi province, who were registered as farmers with the Department of Agricultural Extension in 2022. The sample size was 126. The tool used was an interview form. Descriptive and inferential statistics were employed to address the research purpose, including means, frequencies, percentages, standard deviations, rankings, and multiple regression analysis.
Main Results: The average age of the farmers was 60 years, with an average experience of 7.53 years in mango production. The average annual income from mango production was 11,427.38 baht. The average cost of producing mangoes was 1,769.29 baht/year, with an average yield of 223.17 kg/rai. Farmers need mango production that meets Good Agricultural Practices to be sold at higher prices than regular mangoes. The farmers have problems with the production standards system, including a lack of knowledge about Good Agricultural Practices for mango production.
Conclusions: Factors affecting the extension needs of mango production, according to Good Agricultural Practice standards, were age and experience. Therefore, agricultural extension officers should adapt their knowledge transfer methods to suit farmers of varying ages and levels of experience.
