Stress and Coping during Coronavirus Disease Outbreak among Health Care Workers in Nursing Service Division, Songklanagarind Hospital

Abstract

The purposes of this descriptive research were 1) to study stress and coping during coronavirus disease outbreak among health care workers in Nursing Service Division, Songklanagarind Hospital, and 2) to examine the correlations among these two variables. The samples of this study were 376 supporting staffs (health care workers) in Nursing Service Division, Songklanagarind Hospital, with randomized sampling by multi-stages. The qualified samples had to work at least 6 months and passed assessment on work performance. The research instrument was a questionnaire, tested for its reliability with Cronbach's alpha coefficient 0.96 (stress) and 0.77 (coping). Data were analyzed through descriptive statistics and Pearson product-moment correlation coefficients.
The results of this study showed the average score of health care workers’ stress was at a low
level (Mean = 1.91, S.D. = 0.62) and score of health care workers’ coping stress was also at a low level (Mean = 2.22, S.D. = 0.44). There was a significant correlation between stress and coping during coronavirus disease outbreak among health care workers in Nursing Service Division, Songklanagarind Hospital at 0.01 level.
