Abstract

The descriptive study aimed to investigate: 1) the level of knowledge, attitude, health literacy, and COVID-19 preventive behavior among school-age children, and 2) factors influencing COVID-19 preventive behaviors. Sample for this study were 166 intermediate school students from the year 2022 using simple random sampling. There were five instruments used in this study including Demographic information, a knowledge assessment, an attitude questionnaire, a health literacy assessment, and a COVID-19 preventive behavior questionnaire for school-aged children.

According to the findings, knowledge and attitude were at a moderate level while health literacy and COVID-19 preventive behavior among school-age children were at a high level. The COVID-19 preventive behaviors were handwashing, mask using, social distancing, and self-monitoring. Application of Thaichana is utilized at a moderate level. Health literacy was predictor that affected COVID-19 preventive behavior in school-aged children, accounting for 29.5 percent of the variance (R2=.295, p.01). The findings are advantageous to public health organizations and academic institutions and can be used as a benchmark to encourage health literacy and a COVID-19 or emerging infectious diseases preventive behavior. Additionally, they can prepare children for a typical life shift so they can adopt a healthy lifestyle.
