This descriptive research aimed to investigate the scope of thesis work on geriatric nursing among students in the Master of Nursing Science Program in Thailand. The sample consisted of 122 experimental or quasi-experimental research articles published between 2012-2021 in the Thai-Journal Citation Index Center. Research instruments included a general record of research articles and data extraction tables from literature reviews with an interrater reliability of 1. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The research results showed that most of the research articles, 92.62% used a quasi-experimental research design, 38.50% studied in older adults with chronic illness, 67.21% used effect sizes to estimate sample size. Most studies had sample sizes of 16-30 persons per group (72.95%), did not use random sampling (51.64%), and durations of the studies ranged from five to eight weeks (54.10%). The research identified the top five concepts or theories used to develop programs for older adults, which were 1) self-management concept, 2) self-efficacy theory, 3) social support concept, 4) self-care theory, and 5) cognitive stimulation concept. There were seven nursing outcomes from the study ranked as follows; 1) geriatric syndromes, 2) behaviors, 3) psychology, 4) laboratory and physical examination, 5) perception of persons, 6) physical symptoms, and 7) social.
Based on these findings, the study recommends that instructors should encourage students to develop experimental research designs to solve problems related to geriatric syndrome, as there were few studies in this area. Overall, this study provides valuable insights into the scope of thesis work on geriatric nursing among students in the Master of Nursing Science Program in Thailand.
