Abstract

The objectives of this research were to study the toxicity of the crude extracts from Polyscias fruticosa against larva of Aedes sp. The extract from Polyscias fruticosa leaves with 95% of ethanol by using a Soxhlet extractor. Crude extracts concentrations of 0, 4000, 6000, 8000 and 10,000 ppm derived from Polyscias fruticosa leaves were tested. The results showed the toxicity levels (LC50) at 24 and 48 hours were 6,141.95 ppm and 4,367.09 ppm, respectively. The preliminary phytochemical examination of the crude extracts from Polyscias fruticosa leaves showed that the strongest inhibition of crude extracts were saponins and finolics, followed by the phobatannins. the highest percentage mortality of Aedes aegypti larva at 24 and 48 hours with concentration of 10,000 ppm were 93.33 ± 5.77 and 96.67 ± 5.77, respectively. Therefore, the toxicity of the crude extracts from Polyscias fruticosa could eliminated larva of Aedes sp. that can apply to prevent and control mosquito in community.
